HTC, the world’s fifth biggest smartphone maker, is set to offer its smartphone and tablet a new Cloud storage option to rival Apple’s iCloud and Microsoft’s SkyDrive after the Taiwanese mobile giant teamed up with Dropbox to offer up to 5GB of free storage on user devices. Chinese trade publicationDigtimes reportsTaiwan-based mobile manufacturer HTC has already secured sales of one million units of its new 7-inch Android-powered HTC Flyer tablet device, ensuring the company has guaranteed orders until September 2011. Digitimes sources a report by Chinese newspaper Commercial Times, which also suggests that despite a lack of any official pricing or release date, the HTC Flyer will cost around $600, coming in lower than the Samsung Galaxy Tab but higher than Apple’s iPad 2....

HTC’s legal wrangle with Apple took a turn today, when the Taiwanese mobile phone maker said it was willing to negotiate with its Californian counterpart in the ensuing patent fight. As wereportedtwo weeks ago, the US International Trade Commission ruled that HTC had violated two of Apple’s patents, relating to data-detection and data-transmission technologies. In a twist, HTCboughtout S3 Graphics Co. for $300m earlier this month, just after S3 Graphics hadwona similar patent infringement case against Apple, and this buy-out was viewed as HTC beefing up its patent arsenal in its ensuing war with Apple....
