Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTChas doubledhandset sales on year so far, helped largely by its partnership with mobile operator Chunghwa Telecom, ensuring that the company will surpass sales of its biggest rival Nokia and make it the top handset vendor in the country within the first half of the year. Jack Tong, Vice President of Asia Pacific said that HTC’s handset sales in Taiwan in the first quarter have already reached half of the companys total handset shipments shipped in 2010, adding that sales in the Asia Pacific market have experienced growth at similar rates....

After re-introducingunlockable bootloaderslast week, HTC hasannounceda new developer initiative calledHTCdev, which would offer mobile app developers with various tools and resources to build apps tailor made for HTC Sense phones. Announcing it in the Uplinq conference in San Diego, HTC said this initiative will kick start in summer 2011 and will support developers across the industry, right from individuals to large enterprises all over the world. It also added, it would be releasing the Open Sense SDK which contains all the required APIs, sample code and plug-ins for building apps with HTC Sense 3....

Chinese trade publicationDigiTimesis reporting that Taiwan smartphone manufacturer HTC expects to sell 1.5 million of its new Flyer tablet devices, committing to releasing two additional tablets in 2011. The HTC Flyer,announced yesterdayat the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, will launch in the second quarter of 2011 and has been estimated to contribute over NT$3 billion (US$102 million) in revenues. The HTC Flyer will be powered by a 1.5GHz single-core Qualcomm chip and comes with a 7-inch display that features a resolution of 1024 x 600....

I could probably sum up this whole thing with “holy crap that’s fast”, but that wouldn’t be doing this device much justice. Quite like when we got the first 4G phones onto the market, and then the HTC Evo 4G from Sprint, Verizon’s Thunderbolt is a pretty big deal. First off, as you know, the Thunderbolt is big red’s first LTE phone. We’ve played with Verizon’s LTE USB modems and they’re exceptionally fast....

HTC has announced that it will begin unlocking bootloaders on its HTC Sensation and Evo 3D smartphones in August, two weeks after it first declared it would reintroduce unrestricted bootloaders following consumer pressure. HTC revealed in late March wasconsidering changingthe bootloader restrictions on its Android handsets after it posted a message to its official Facebook page to notify its customers. The Taiwan-based vendor received so many messages it then decided it would bring bootloader unlocking to its newest phones....
