As expected, Apple’s SVP of iOS Scott Forstall today unveiled iOS 5, the next major software update in iOS with 200 new features and 1500 new API’s. Major features of this release include: 1.Notifications: One of the biggest pain points of iOS has been the notifications. Today, Apple unveiled a new notification system with a new Notification center, which houses all email notifications, text messages and push notifications. These notifications are not persistent in the lock screen and non-interruptive unlike previous notifications....

Apple has announced that it is striving to make the camera better, with faster access. The volume button will now double as a quick-access point to the camera app. It’s also introducing a lock screen shortcut to camera, meaning that even if the user has a passcode set, they can go straight to the camera. It’s not clear whether there will be an option to switch this feature off, as the whole point of a passcode is to stop other people using the device if it leaves the owner’s possession....

Last week, wereportedon the most popular ‘connected’ apps in the UK, noting that Google Maps was number one, followed by Yahoo in second place. The data was the result of a collaboration between The GSMA, comScore and UK mobile operators, and some more interestingstatshave been released relating to the platforms UK app users are connecting with.
