Smartphones always seem to run out of juice at the worst time. Luckily though, there’s an easy fix:use an age-old body modification scarring ritual to sear a permanent information conduit into your soft skin. Or at least that’s what one young Italian dude seems to believe. Earlier this week, tattoo artist Gabriele Pellerone tattooed a QR code of the client’s official EU covid certificate on their upper arm,Il Regginoreports. Unfortunately, the original story doesn’t share the name of the brave pioneer who got the tattoo — which is why I’ve affectionately named him ‘Italian dude’ — but you can see his genius idea actually works in Pellerone’s video (if you’re on desktop is probably better to view ithere)....

Earlier this week, Italian startups lost their right to register and incorporate online after the country’s lobby of notarieswon its claim to have it removed. The news has understandably left the Italian startup ecosystem in a bit of a shock. This decision isliterallya step backward, as startups have been able to register online since 2016, so I’m afraid this will be a detriment to the economic development of the country and the development of its startup ecosystem....

Google’s antitrust woes continue to mount. Italy’s competition watchdog has fined the search giant €102 million ($123 million) for restricting access to Android Auto, an in-car operating system for Android phones. The case stems from a complaint by energy company Enel X Italia, which makes an app called JuicePass that allows users to find electric vehicle charging points — a service Google Maps also provides. It looks like we’ll have to wait another week to find out how the Kodak vs. Apple infringement suit turns out. The ITC has justpushedits ruling deadline back a week to June 30th. In January, Eastman Kodak filed suit against Apple, alleging that a number of Apple devices infringe on a Kodak patent. An ITC judge ruled the same month that Apple and the co-named Research in Motion were not violating Kodak’s patent....

Early reports are coming in that the ITC hasruled againstKodak in its patent suit against Apple and RIM. The informational portion of therulingexplains that the the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS do not infringe on key Kodak patents. Other portions of the suit are still under determination and will not be decided until August 30th.Updated with statement from Kodak at bottom of post.
