Security company Symantec has posted anotificationon their blog that reveals a flaw in the Facebook web application API that has allowed apps nearly complete access to user’s accounts. This includes profiles, photos, chat and the ability to mine customer information.Updates below. Fortunately, says Symantec, these third-party apps may not have realized that they even had the ability in the first place. Facebook has been informed that the issue exists and they have taken ‘corrective action’ to eliminate the vulnerability....

Google’s Bradley Horowitz recentlytweetedthe news, as seems to be the case for Google+’s continued routine of quietly releasing updates. Horowitz is encouraging Twitter users with over 100k followers to shoot him a direct message in order to privately chat about the testing process. Could this be Google+’s attempt to call attention to branded or “verified” profiles on the service?...

With the Libyan uprising still in full swing, earlier this week welookedat some of the trusted places people could go to get reliable coverage of events as they unfolded. Whilst some of these were the usual news outlets, such as Reuters and the BBC, there was also a plethora of citizens on the ground reporting what they saw as it happened. It’s political and social events such as this that help to demonstrate how citizen journalism has really come to the fore, and it’s something traditional media outlets can’t compete with given that have-a-go hacks are normally at the scene of a story before it even happens....
