A team of researchers has used machine learning to predict and explain terrorist attacks. Their tests suggest the models canaccurately predict attacks in regions that are already affected by terrorism. However, they foundthat “black swan events,” which occur sporadically, are almost impossible to predict. The researchers, led by Dr Andre Python from Zhejiang University in China,used publicly available data to analyze the location and data ofattacks that occurred between 2002 and 2016 in 13 regions of the world....

Tulsa-based app developerMacroSolve, Inc. has sued companies like AT&T, Citigroup, Dell, Groupon, Living Social and SalesForce in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas for infringing on its patents, according toa report by Tulsa World. MacroSolve was recently awarded a patent for the method of creating an app, sending it to mobile devices and then using it to collect information about users. Going by its broadest definition, it pretty much covers the entire spectrum of apps available today and it’s no surprise that the company is going after industry heavyweights, hoping to earn a nice pot in settlements....
