Microsoft today accidentally revealed a test version of a social search service it has codenamed Tulalip,Winrumorsreports. The site appeared at socl.com for a short time, a domain owned by Microsoft. It’s no wonder the project is still meant to be under wraps, as it commits many grammar and design sins, but it’s interesting to see that the company is trying its hand at social endeavors. “With Tulalip, you can Find what you need and Share what you know easier than ever,” the website said in its short time on the web, and featured Facebook and Twitter sign-in options, making it clear that Microsoft isn’t looking to get involved in social networking itself but is rather building layers on top of other networks....

Microsoft has been accused of double-billing subscribers to its Xbox Live Gold service, a platform which connects over 23 million gamers, after an disillusioned customer filed a federal class action lawsuit against the Redmond-based company. The Courthouse News Service reportslead plaintiff Ryan Graves has claimed Microsoft’s prepaid subscriptions are “governed by vague and onerous terms of use,” with the company’s Xbox team accused of double-billing people who do not renew their subscription before it expires....

Microsoft has announced a deal with Israeli movie startupJinni, licensing its semantic discovery technology to bring personalised recommendations for films and television shows to its varying array of desktop, mobile and gaming devices. The Redmond-based software giant is quiet on the details but it is likely it will use Jinni’s Discovery Engine and Entertainment Genome to help classify databases of television shows and films, sorting them into mood, plot and style to allow for easy discovery on a variety of Windows devices....

Microsoft has announced a joint search partnership with Chinese search engine giantBaidu, which will see Bing power all search queries made in English. Reutersreportedon the deal earlier today, and it seems that any search carried out in English will automatically trigger Bing, and the results will be parsed into Baidu’s pages. Microsoft and Baidu originallyformeda paid search partnership back in 2006, and under the terms of that agreement, Baidu’s paid listings appeared on the results pages of the Chinese-language versions of Microsoft sites such as MSN and Live Search, the latter of which was relaunched as Bing in 2009....
