Microsoft has purchased666,624 IPv4 addressesfrom the bankrupt networking vendor Nortel Netorks after a period of competitive bidding. The 7.5 million dollars that Microsoft spent on the IPv4 addresses roughly breaks down to a per-unit price of $11.25. In perspective, that is cheaper than the price of registering a domain name, which usually costs around $10 depending on the registrar used. Microsoft is sick and tired of people using Internet Explorer 6. So much so, in fact, that the company has launched a brand new website,IE6countdown.com, to keep tabs on the old-school browser’s demise. The goal of the site is to track Internet Explorer 6’s market share until it drops below 1%. The good news? IE6’s market share is going down, everyone agrees with this. The bad news? Microsoft launched several Windows Phone 7.5 devices during an event in New Delhi today, bringing the Marketplace to India for the first time, according toa report by WinRumors. Bhaskar Paramanik, the chairman of Microsoft India, announcedthe upcoming availability of the HTC Radarin India starting from next week and Acer Allegro and Samsung Omnia W in November this year.
