Network antivirus and internet content security software provider Trend Micro hasreleased its quarterly threat roundup(PDF) of the most dangerous threats to mobile and computer security, highlighting that in the second quarter, Microsoft was the top vendor target with 96 attacks. The new report saw Apple – which was the top vendor target in the first quarter – slip from the top ten, despite the fact the Cupertino-based company’s products have continued to dominate headlines....

Microsoft India is being sued by New Delhi law firm Singhania & Partners in the Competition Appellate Tribunal (COMPAT) for abusing its monopoly in the desktop operating system and office software markets, according toa report by theTimes of India. The suit claims that Microsoft unduly leveraged its monopoly in the markets mentioned above by selling the feature-identical OEM and volume licensed versions of Windows Vista and Office 2007 at different prices....

Microsoft is suing Barnes & Noble, Foxconn, and Inventec for patent infringement. Microsoft claims that the three companies employ the Android operating system, popular around the world, in violation of its patents. Microsoft specifically outlines that e-reading devices and tablets are at the heart of its complaint. Redmond states that certain OEMs, like HTC, have licensed relevant Microsoft patents in regards to use of the Android OS, while other companies, those being sued, have not....

Microsoft is set to deliver the second software development kit (SDK) for its Surface line of products on June 12th. This release is on time, as Microsoft had previously promised to distribute the SDK during the summer. According to Microsoft’sblog postannouncing the upcoming release, the SDK runs on WPF 4.0, XNA 4.0, and Windows 7. Also coming in the second SDK for Surface is, not surprisingly, the Metro design aesthetic. The Surface team promises a “new visual style” that is “consistent with other Microsoft Products such as Zune and Windows Phone....

It seems that Microsoft is willing to keep up certain projects even in the face of tepid demand so long as Google has a competing product in the market. But once Google yanks the plug on a feature that never had a future, Microsoft feels comfortable following suit. Today, the companyended its Microsoft Hohm product. Googleended its competing service, Google PowerMeter, roughly one week ago. The products were similar enough that they could have been siblings....
