It’s not immediately clear whether this is related to the50% overall layoffthat we heard about only a few days ago, butMySpaceChina has apparently laid off 2/3 of its staff. Though the total is only at 30, reports fromChinese technology site Techwebstate that the site appears to be showing signs of neglect as the remanning staffers focus their efforts elsewhere. Interestingly, we’re only just now hearing about these layoffs even though they apparently happened sometime in December....
Once all-powerful social networking serviceMySpaceis having a tough time of late; its users are leaving the website in droves, heading to Faceboook and Google’s new social networking service Google+, and the company was recently sold for $35 million. We’ve speculated, but now we know (ifAll Things Digital‘s “FIRST” scream is right) — MySpace is done. It will be sold to advertising companySpecific Mediafor $35 million, a far cry from the $580 million acquisition that it originally commanded from News Corp. The deal includes a halfing of Myspace’s staff of 400, as well as other cost cuts. It’s likely Myspace CEO Mike Jones and other top staff will remain only for an interim period....
