To commemorate the upcoming 10th anniversary of September 11th, the National Geographic Channel has launched an interactive Facebook application called “Remembering 9/11“. The app, which to be frank– I can’t for the life of me get to work– was developed in partnership with Neo-Pangea, and allows users to post short, geotagged accounts of their experiences, which are then featured on an interactive map. According to National Geographic, users will then be able to explore all posted anecdotes by location and filter stories to see their friends’ stories and share comments....

National Rail Enquiries, the number one source for passenger rail services on the National Rail network in England, Wales and Scotland, has today launched new widgets capable of delivering train times in real-time. The company, which handles over 1.3 million journey enquiries every day, has made available two widgets – one for Windows 7 users and one for those using a Mac. Releasing the latest version of its Internet Explorer 9 software earlier this week, Microsoft approached National Rail Enquiries, partnering with them to create anew HTML 5 widgetcalled Live Boards....

The National Sheriff’s Association says it will strongly support mandatory data retention by ISPs in a House of Representatives hearing tomorrow,CNET reports. The association believes that ISPs don’t store information on their customer’s Internet usage for long enough, says board member Michael Brown. Data retention schemes widely and rightfully evoke strong emotions from citizens in Western countries where the topic has been raised before. When the Attorney-General’s department proposed mandatory retention schemes in Australia last year, the public and press response was not particularly warm....

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the state-owned telecom carrier in India, has launched its own “Apps Store”, offering over 4,500 free and paid mobile apps to its subscribers at launch, according toa report by Techcircle.in. The portal is available to all users of BSNL’s 2G and 3G networks in the country and is accessible over GPRS through its BSNL Live homepage. The apps are divided under 25 categories such as entertainment, finance, games, news, sports, etc....
