On June 9, 2021, my colleagues and I announced the discovery of535 fast radio burststhat we detected using theCanadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experimenttelescope (CHIME). Detected in 2018 and 2019, these bursts of radio waves last only milliseconds, come from far across the universe, and are enormously powerful – a typical event releases as much energy in a millisecond as the Sun does over many days. Fast radio bursts are the subject ofa young and emerging field in astrophysics, with only around 150 having been found before the release of our new catalog....

Barnes & Noble fired back at the Kindle today with a simple, 6″ touchscreen Nook that has a 2 month battery life and sits at 10% smaller than the Kindle 3. The new ereader also features an E-ink Pearlr display, a soft contoured back and a WiFi connection. This is designed to be a stripped down reader that will compete directly with Amazon’s offerings and sit below the current Nook and the Nook Color in B&N’s lineup....
