Things really are bitter between Nokia and Apple at the moment. Nokia has announced that it has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that Apple infringes additional patents in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, tablets and computers. The move follows aninitial complaintby Nokia over five patents last May. The ITCmade an initial determinationjust days ago, deciding that Apple wasn’t at fault, and now the Finnish mobile giant is back for more....

Nokia’s deal to outsource Symbian development to Accenture was finalised on Wednesday, after the two companies reached an agreement to handover software development and support to the outsourcing company. The terms of the agreement state that Accenture will support Symbian development and support at least until 2016, providing a lifeline for the stricken operating system. Nokia will transfer 2,800 of its employees from North America, Asia and Europe when the deal is closed, which will likely take place in October 2011....

Nokia’s partnership with Microsoft,announced last week, will be confirmed and finalised within “in a couple of months” says Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, talking with a group of Finnish journalists. The deal will see Nokia make Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform its primary operating system, replacing its own MeeGo and Symbian software, as the company targets the North American smartphone market. Reuters reports: The deal would be signed “in a couple of months (or) it might take a bit longer,” Chief Executive Stephen Elop said in a meeting with Finnish journalists....

Although Nokia might be wonky on its smartphone strategy, it looks like its still doing great in the dumbphone market. Nokia’s Chennai unit which was started in 2006, has just shipped its 500 millionth handset, thus setting quite a record for the company’s manufacturing operations both in India and globally. Prakash Katama, director, Chennai factory operations, Nokia India said: We have created a unique record across the world. This is not only a proud moment for us at Nokia, but a major highlight in India’s young and rising electronics manufacturing industry....

Nokia India will soon be offering a location based service called “Search” through which users can discover information about a specific location and local information around it, at the touch of a button. Speaking at an event, Nokia India’s Director of Operator Channel, V Ramnath said: “We are planning to introduce the ‘Search’ option that gives out details about a particular locality or anything you want to know. For example, if you want to know a food joint in Nungambakkam (in Chennai), it will give out the details of food joints present nearby”....
