After thepublic announcementof Nokia’s plans to produce Windows phones as its primary mobile operating system, we were all pretty much convinced that the Symbian OS will soon be dead. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop attempted to control damage by stating that the OS will live on at least until 2016. In an interview withNokia ConversationsChina Edition, Elop stated that Nokia will continue to support smartphones that run its homegrown Symbian platform until 2016 and will maintain its customer service and apps as part of Nokia’s ongoing support for Symbian customers....

Nokia just unveiled its newest smartphone, the Nokia N9, which it bills as the world’s first pure touch smartphone, powered by Meego. Introduced by Marko Ahtisaari, Nokia’s SVP of design, during theNokia Connection 2011in Singapore, the N9 aims to cover the most important things people look for in a smartphone: a functional user interface, a unique industrial design, and a robust platform that allows for easy software development. The N9 is equipped with a pure-glass interface with only touch as a control mechanism, and has revamped the home screen in light of the fact that making calls is no longer one of the most frequent uses of smartphones....

Just minutes ago, Colin Giles, EVP of Nokia, took to the stage at a Nokia event in Hong Kong to unveil the company’s new line of Symbian powered smartphones; the Nokia 600, 700 and 701. Nokia new devices all take on Nokia’s new naming strategy and will be powered by Nokia’s latest Symbian update, Symbian Belle. The new operating system update will provide new widgets, allow for deeper customisation and allow devices to utilise new apps built to utilise Nokia’s range of NFC-equipped smartphones....

When Steven Elopannounced the Nokia/Microsoft partnershiplast week he did so using Apple’s iMovie. And he didn’t just use the software but also the included, royalty free, sound loop included with the software. Guess that is what he meant when he mentioned the “stellar hardware and innovative software and great services”.
