Just like Earth, Jupiter is home to polar lights, driven by charged particles racing through the planet’s magnetic field. When these charged particles hit the atmosphere, they release electromagnetic radiation. However, the aurorae of Jupiter are (as might be expected) far more powerful than the iridescent displays we see at home. Hundreds of gigawatts of X-ray energy released in the auroral displays of Jupiter would be powerful energy to (momentarily) feed all human energy needs....

According toMediaMemo, Spotify is said to have signed Sony into a digital distribution deal very similar to what is set up in Europe. The agreement, of course, doesn’t mean that Spotify will ever launch in the US, but it does set things further into motion than we’ve seen in the past....

oneDrum‘s founders have announced at The Next Web Conference today that theirMicrosoft Officecollaboration platform is entering public beta. The platform is using Office as a proof-of-concept, but co-founder Jasper Westaway explains that the concept was for an all-encompassing collaboration platform that developers could extend for just about any application. Part of the public beta launch is an accompanying private beta for an API enabling developers to hook up their web and desktop applications with oneDrum’s collaborative features....

OneNote is now available on the iPhone. This is the first major piece of Office to make the leap to the world of iOS. AsIna Fried notes: “While Microsoft still hopes to one day rival the iPhone, the company’s Office unit is the latest part of Redmond to acknowledge that, for now at least, the iPhone reigns supreme.” According to a statement from Microsoft, OneNote is installed on some 78 million PCs in the US....
