And now there’s an interesting initiative that lets anyone create multilingual QR codes that link to Wikipedia articles. QRpediawas launched initially back in April, but in ablog poston Wikimedia yesterday, it seems its release is now official. QRpedia emerged from a partnership between the Derby Museum and Gallery in England, and local Wikimedia contributors Roger Bamkin, chair of Wikimedia UK, and Terence Eden, a mobile web consultant....

Qualcomm is a very well-known name when it comes to producing processors (like the one in your phone) and modems. So it feels bizarre to write that the company is now releasing a phone — and it’ll cost a whopping $1,500. The phone has no official name and is just called a Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders. The marketing team clearly wasn’t bothered about it. Qualcomm said that it built the phone with the help of Asus....

Whilst dual-core powered smartphones and tablets might be talk of the town at this years Mobile World Congress, today chipset manufacturer Qualcomm has raised the stakes, announcing its new quad-core Snapdragon processor which will become available early next year. Qualcomm will debut three new chips; its single-core MSM8930, the dual-core MSM8960, and the quad-core APQ8064, all of which will form part of the company’s new processor architecture which goes under the codename “Krait”....

Qualcomm is fighting an uphill battle in trying to compete with Intel and AMD on PCs. Not only does Windows (and most apps) still have worse support for ARM-based processors than more traditional chips, but Qualcomm’s chips haven’t been powerful enough for many users to justify the switch. It’s a bit of a chicken and the egg situation too. After all, developers aren’t going to want to update their apps to support ARM natively if they don’t anticipate users making the switch....
