Google’s Android mobile operating system is continuing to dominate smartphone sales, particularly in the UK, where the platform now powers almost half of all smartphones sold, according to rearch firm Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. Android’s share of the UK market grew by 35.1% in the past year to reach 44.9%, with Nokia’s Symbian platform falling 21.4% to 10.6% in the three months leading up to May 15 2011. Apple is expected to announce its next media event will be held on October 4, with the company’s new CEO Tim Cook poised to unveil Apple’s next-generation iPhone(s) and associated platforms and services,AllThingsD reports.
