Deals sites in the Groupon mould are everywhere these days. Now1Band 1Brandis taking the idea and sticking a hipster spin on it. The site offers a weekly deal highlighting one band and (you guessed it) one fashion brand. It aims to offer an alternative to corporate, pay-to-play, cluttered music and fashion sites by keeping things minimal and pairing together complementary emerging artists and labels. However, unlike most sites currently taking this approach, there’s no group buying ‘tipping point’ required to activate a deal – these are available to all for the whole week....

Turntable.fm emerged out of nowhere to become one of the coolest sites on the Web in just a matter of weeks. In Veracruz, Mexico, widespread panic consumed the local community as terrorized parents scrambled to save their children. From what, exactly? The answer is: absolutely nothing. The panic supposedly began when two Twitter users from the area began informing their followers via a tweet that students were being kidnapped, and children held at gunpoint while other kids were being run over in the streets,Associated Pressreports. Near as we can tell, the rumors first began to spread around August 25th....

The time for entry into theVodafone Mobile Clicksstartup competition is getting short. The deadline for entry is midnight CET on June 12th, 2011, just two weeks away. Announced at The Next Web conference in April, the contest allows any startup in Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Republic of Ireland, Spain, Turkey or the United Kingdom that has a mobile site, service or application to apply and compete for a €225,000 prize fund....

Google is well known as a great place to work and the entire European HQ here in Dublin had a little fun recently when 2,000 of them lined out in the streets to have their photo taken for their own streetview product as the car passed their offices (have a play with the actual street here). The stunt was carried out a couple of months ago and has made its way on to the live version of their maps and street view which means anybody who doesn’t know that their offices are there and just happens to be browsing will be met with over 2,000 mad staff dressed in all sorts of weird outfits holding laptops in the air and promoting their own Google products....
