AOL Acquires Huffington Post for $315 Million

Newsbrokelate on Sunday that American news website and blogThe Huffington Postwould be acquired byAOL. The news has now beenconfirmedand the agreed price is a reported $315 million ($300 million in cash), expected to close in the late first, or early second quarter 2011. As part of the deal, Huffington Post Co-founderArianna Huffingtonwill become president and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group within AOL. Interestingly, the position will see Arianna Huffington in charge of all of AOL content and other content properties, including gadget blog Engadget and recent AOL acquisition TechCrunch....

Aol and Yahoo reportedly in merger talks

Bloomberg isreportingthat Aol and Yahoo are in early merger talks just three days after former Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz was fired, and replaced with CFO Tim Morse. AOL shuts down AOL.in

AOL, which is trying toresurrect itselfas a startup in the US, has apparently shut down AOL.in, the India-focussed portal of AOL.com. The web portal now redirects to one of AOL’s mobile properties,aol.coolage.in. Earlier in the year, AOL had alsolaid off400 employees in its Indian unit and transferred 300 employees to their partners like Mindtree and HP, retaining only its mobile team. In aleaked memo, Tim Armstrong, AOL’s CEO had stated its Indian unit will now refocus on Asia and India related consumer products....
