In apost on Google’s blog today, the company’s Senior Vice President David Drummond has accused Apple, Microsoft and Oracle of conducting “a hostile, organized campaign against Android…waged through bogus patents.” In the post, entitled ‘When Patents Attack Android’, Drummond starts out by describing the success that Android has had, reiterating the 550,000-devices-a-day stat that was revealed at the company’s last earnings call. He then goes on to state that the success has drawn hostile attention from competitors like Microsoft, Apple and Oracle and that the companies have turned to using patents to wage war....

Google has acknowledged a problem with its popular Gmail email service after users reported missing emails, labels and contacts over the past few hours. The Huffington Post reportsthat some users had been using their Gmail accounts normally, only to find all of their important messages and contacts had disappeared when they tried to access them a short while after. Google has acknowledged that there could be an issue with its new flagship phone or Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system after a number of users reported that their Nexus S devices were randomly rebooting, often during phone calls. At first Google suggested it could be a bugcaused by the device itself, prompting users to contact the manufacturers of the Nexus S; Samsung. After similar reports were filed onGoogle’s Mobile Help Forum, the company managed to replicate the error and is currently in contact with Samsung trying to assess whether it is indeed a software or a hardware issue....

The Internet is buzzing with suggestions that Google is about to unveil a new social networking platform calledGoogle Circles, despite those reported to be close to the project denying that such a service exists.
