More than twenty companies including Google Facebook and eBay will tomorrow file a complaint with France’s State Council, officially declaring their opposition to a ruling that requires them to keep data on web users for over a year. The AFP reportsthat other companies operating in the country, including video website Dailymotion and marketplace PriceMinister, will bring a case before France’s highest judical body, a representative from the French Association of Internet Community Services (ASIC) said on earlier today....

Google and Facebook are not encrypting the mobile traffic sent to and from their services, inviting wannabe attackers to impersonate them or post bogus status updates as a result. Dan Wallach, a university professor at Rice University in Houston, Texas set up a smartphone security experiment as part of his undergraduate security class to sniff traffic on a network whilst he performed several web requests from his Android handset, detailing his findings in ablog post....

Even with their most senior executives attending face-to-face talks, Google and Oraclewere unableto reach an agreement to settle a lawsuit which accuses the search giant of infringing on Oracle’s Java patents with its Android mobile operating system. As a result, U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal will force Google and Oracle back for a second settlement conference, which will be held on Wednesday morning, in the hope that the companies can reach an agreement before heading to trial – scheduled for October....

Major Indian mobile carrier Reliance Jio launched its phone in partnership with Google, called the JioPhone Next, in India today. The device was announced at the company’s annual general meeting, that the 4G enabled phone has a customized version of Android. Jio said that the phone will have features such as voice assistant, translation in multiple languages, and AR. Currently, the specifications and details of the phone are unknown.
