Nokia has been dominating the press as of late – mainly for all the wrong reasons – but it seems to be grating on some prominent mobile industry figures, particularly at Google. In reference to Nokia’s Capital Markets Day in London on February 11, where the company will reveal its strategic announcements, Google’s VP of Engineering Vic Gundotra posted thefollowing tweet: The two turkeys referenced in the tweet? According to areportby This is My Next, Google will announce a Near Field Communication (NFC) payment system tomorrow called Google Wallet. The payment system will be acompanyed by several retail partners including The container Store. TiMN says that NFC readers will arrive in stores around September 1st. Customers will be able to pay for items by tapping their phones on the devices. The information seems to come from an internal memo sent out by The Container Store....

“Pick whatever you want, it’s on us.” That’s what the Google Wallet spokespeople can be heard saying in a reaction video just released by Google today. In the clips, employees decked out in Google Wallet gear head into popular stores like Duane Reade, Toyrs R Us, Peet’s Coffee, Jamba Juice, Container Store, American Eagle Outfitters, and Macy’s in both San Francisco and New York. These spokespeople then approach customers with Android phones to pitch the Google Wallet experience, then offer to actually pay for their purchases in full....

Google is warning users who appear to be infected with a widespread malware infection when they use Google’s search product,the company said today. Google engineers noticed suspicious search data recently and worked with IT security at affected companies to find the cause: malware that re-routes traffic to Google and other sites through a proxy. To what end the infection does this for is unknown. Google does not have the ability to detect the presence of viruses on user’s computers, simply the suspicious network activity caused by the malware....
