One of the coolest announcements at Google I/O this year was also one we did not expect: Google is working on holographic video calls — or something a lot like that — through a system calledProject Starline. Project Starline aims to make video calls more natural by using a large display that shows life-size, 3D images of participants. It’s not just 3D like a 3D movie, but rather it allows you to move around and change the angle you’re seeing of the other participant....

Today, on Google’s quarterly call, Eric Schmidt, currently Google’s CEO, spoke first, stating the obvious, that Google had a strong year and their outlook is very bright. Google reported earnings of $8.44 billion for the 4th quarter, ending December 31st, 2010. This is an increase of 26% compared to the 4th quarter of 2009 revenues of $6.67 billion. ‘Our strong performance has been driven by a rapidly growing digital economy, continuous product innovation that benefits both users and advertisers, and by the extraordinary momentum of our newer businesses, such as display and mobile....

In a remarkable interview onBloomberg TV, Google Chairman Eric Schmidt shared a moving appreciation of his friend and competitor Steve Jobs, declaring him the “Greatest Tech Entrepreneur in history.” In the lengthy interview, Schmidt made clear he had the utmost respect for Jobs as a leader, entrepreneur and man. Between the countless superlatives, Schmidt made clear that Jobs was seriously ill and it was his stubbornness and devotion to his life & work that kept him alive....

During the Dreamforce conference in San Francisco late last week, Google’s Eric Schmidt let slip that the new Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android would be released soon, reportsAndroid and Me.
