Education technology. A lot like military intelligence, if you grew up as a child of the 80’s or 90’s, the chances are that the phrase is an oxymoron to you. When I was in school (high school graduating class of 1995), we had a few sparse computers around the building, and we learned basic programming on anApple IIGS. Today, my kids go to a school that has computer labs spread throughout it, and the classroom itself houses a couple of computers (though they’re used more forstandardized testingthan for daily education)....

Organised by Germany’sHackFwdfund, HackNow is looking for technically talented people under the age of 18 to create web applications, iPhone hacks, Facebook apps, graphics demos and more – basically anything that shows off their talent. Entrants can code in any language they like as long as the finished product is for any of Windows, OS X, iOS, Android, Linux or the Web....

While attacks across the Internet are no new thing, it’s not often that we see an outright admission from a Government entity, of a country’s system being the prey. UK Secretary of StateWilliam Haguehas broken this silence, speaking to a conference in Munich. Astudyhas revealed that almost 50% of UK companies prohibit employees from using social media at work. The research, carried out by Lewis Communications and HCL Technologies, found that from the 2,500 businesses surveyed, 48% ban their workers from posting updates onTwitter,Facebookand other social networking sites. So, whilst previousresearchhas shown that social networking should be encouraged at work as it boosts moral and improves productivity, it seems that many companies still take a dim view of employees mixing business with pleasure....
