According to the latest data from the German Association of Automotive industry (VDA) and Schimdt Automotive Research, Germany has reached an impressive milestone. For the first time, one in five cars produced in the country are now plug-ins!
During March,74,000 of the total 373,900passenger cars produced were xEVs, meaning all vehicles capable of charging with an external cable (BEVs, PHEVs).
In fact, BEV and PHEVs scored their highest production record of 20%, after maintaining a share between 15 to nearly 20% for five consecutive months.

Their production was reduced slightly (4,800 units less) from the last quarter of 2020 to the first quarter of 2021, which was mainly due to the Christmas shutdown over the holiday period.
Nevertheless, German manufacturers are set to increase their production in compliance with the EU’s CO2 emission regulations.
