During the company’searningscall, Apple’s CFO Peter Oppenheimer announced that its newest operating system, Mac OS X Lion, would be launching tomorrow. This confirms therumorsthat have been swirling over the last few days.
OS X Lion is an extensive upgrade to Apple’s OS X operating system, bringing sweeping changes across the OS. The addition of features like full-screen applications, Launchpad and extensive gesture support have led many to make correlations between Apple’s iOS and OS X platforms. This has sparked rumors that Apple could bemerging these twointo one at some point in the future.
Over 250 new featureswere introduced in OS X Lion, with many of them polishing the standard features of the OS. Apple has also introduced a bevy of new API’s for developers, allowing them to take advantage of safety and stability enhancements like application sandboxing, versioning and auto-restore of application states. Many of these are being applied to applications by developers now.
