Ahead of the launch of iOS5 later today, Apple has made itsFind My Friendslocation based service available. The app allows you to (as the name implies) see your friends on a map.

As Apple describes it:

The Find My Friends app is a great way to share your location with people who are important to you.* Friends who share their location with you appear on a map so you can quickly see where they are and what they’re up to. And since Find My Friends works with Contacts and Maps, you can do things like find the quickest route to a surprise party — and avoid running into the birthday girl — all at once.

The app allows temporary sharing, helping your friends find you without them having to stalk you on a long term basis,

You can install Find My Friends by visitingiCloud.comon an iOS device and tapping on the link to install the app, along with the wider iCloud service, which, as we reported earlier, is nowout of beta. Find My Friends is alsoon the App Storebut it only works with iOS5 devices, meaning that most potential users will have to hold fire for a little longer until they can upgrade to the new version of the OS.
