Do you like podcasts? Here at The Next Web, we love them; as you probably know, we even have a couple of our own, with ourDaily DoseandTNW Sessions. But what about other sources around the world? Well, it turns out that there are also interesting tech- and startup-related shows coming out of Latin America. Here are five podcasts in Spanish and Portuguese that you should definitely try out. If neither of these is your mother tongue, listening to them could also be a great way to improve your language skills!
Nerdcore
Nerdcoreis a weekly video podcast, also available as anMP3. It focuses on all things geek, from gadgets and tech news to online culture and video games. Hosted by the Mexican geeksLeo LambertiniandOscar Yasser Noriega “Akira”, its feel is that of a small, laid-back TV show – and for a reason, since it’s also available as alive stream. With almost 150 episodes available, it has already managed to create its own casual identity and build a community: a couple minutes of each episode are dedicated to shout-outs to listeners. Besides its hosts, it quite often features special guests from the Mexican Internet scene.
Man in the Arena
Man in the Arenahas only released 23episodesso far, but it’s already become a reference in the Brazilian startup ecosystem. Indeed, this Brazilian bi-weekly video podcast focuses on entrepreneurship and startups. Its formula consists of having a different guest in each episode. Key members of the Brazilian startup community have already participated to the show, from entrepreneurs to well-known investors. Despite its name, the podcast has also welcomed female guests such as Fernanda Nudelman Trugilho, founder of the co-working spacePto de Contato, Maria Carolina Cintra fromKingo Labsand Silvia Valadares from Microsoft (see our storyLatin American Startups: 10 Women to Watch.) Besides the guests’ interviews, each episode also includes book recommendations and advice for wannabe entrepreneurs – the hostsLeo KubaandMiguel Cavalcantiare both entrepreneurs themselves.

Emprende.la
Emprende.lais a Mexican audio podcast co-hosted by the Mexican entrepreneurOmar Mendoza, the podcast’s producerCeleste Northand the founder ofTwitea.meandShout A Tweet,Arturo Garrido(see our previousstory). With over 60 episodes, it focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation in Mexico. Its guest list has already featured names such asCesar SalazarandSantiago ZavalafromMexican.vc, as well as many Mexican entrepreneurs. It also closely follows events that matter for the Mexican ecosystem, likeSG Emprende. Emprende.la’s ultimate goal is to “foster the growth of Mexican ideas, projects and companies.” Besides the podcast, it also publishes additional content on itswebsite(in Spanish).
Mejorando La Web
Mejorando.lais a video podcast show in Spanish about technology, aired live every Thursday. Its hosts are the Colombian entrepreneurFreddy Vegaand the Guatemalan founder of the online communityMaestros del Web,Christian Van Der Henst(see our previous story,8 Latin American Entrepreneurs To Circle on Google+.) More dev-oriented than the other podcasts listed here, it counts HTML5 as one of its recurring themes. It also organized the first edition of its own conference on HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and Python a couple weeks ago,Mejorando.la Conferencia. Although it was an online event, live physical broadcasts also took place simultaneously in different Latin American cities.
Byte Podcast
Byte Podcastis a veteran weekly Mexican audio podcast: it was launched more than six years ago. With almost 300 episodes, it focuses on technology and digital culture – the topics it covers range from the latest tablets to Linux, industry news, Mexican startups and interviews. It also follows key events in Mexico, such as the latestCampus Party, where it recorded a special episode. Hosted byDavid Ochoa, recently joined by a female co-host who goes by the nickname of “La Canija Lagartija“, it also counts with the help of severalcollaborators. Besides this podcast, David also hosts conferences andworkshopson podcasting, for instance during TelMexHub Tour (see our previousstory.)
