Google has announcedthat the lucky residents ofKansas City, Kansasare the latest recipients in their ultra high-speed broad band deployments.
Almost 1,100 cities felt theneed for speedfrom Google and after careful consideration Kansas City signed a development agreement and we’ll be working closely with local organizations, businesses and universities to bring a next-generation web experience to the community.
If you are like me, you are wondering why Kansas City? In selecting a city, Google’s goal was to find a location where they could build it out efficiently, make an impact on the community and develop relationships with local government and community organizations. Kansas City seemed to really fit the bill. However, I still suspect it has something to do with their BBQ… it’s that good.
Review the video below and listen to the quote from Google CFO Patrick Pichette, “Data speed is like oxygen”. Amen, brother. This will take Kansas City from the megabit web to the gigabit web, in fact, every home will have 1 gigabit of direct Internet access to the home. Nice.

The service for Kansas City will start in 2012 pending approval from the city’s Board of Commissioners, but we highly doubt they will throw in any speed bumps to something of this impact, let alone the pure coolness factor.
