Google hasreleased a WordPressplugin that simplifies the process of verifying your ownership of a site, giving you faster access to a variety of Google services.
Verification is required to add a site toGoogle Webmaster Toolsor use certain features of AdSense, Merchant Center, Sidewiki and more. It generally requires you to add a TXT record to your DNS records, upload a HTML file to your site’s root directory, or add a tag to the homepage’s header.
Google isn’t always speedy about performing the check after you’ve made the change, and in the case of adding DNS records it can take even longer.
More interesting than Google’s attempt to speed the process up for site owners is that this release implies Google’s acknowledgement of WordPress’ dominance of the CMS battlefield right now, having dominated competitors such as Joomla! and Drupal some time ago — a good sign for the continued flourishing of WordPress’ own micro-economy.
