The Japanese telecom carrier KDDI has taken down its “Android au” website, according toa report by Asiajin. The takedown appears to bein anticipation of the arrival of the iPhone 5on its ‘au’ network in November this year.

TheAndroid au website, which had so far featured videos of the popular Japanese boy bandArashishowing off KDDI’s Android lineup, has been stripped bare and now only shows the phrase “Android(tm) au サイトは終了いたしました。” (translated: “Android au site has finished”). It then redirects visitors to the company’sau website.

The Arashi videoswere pretty clearly targeted against the iPhone—by advertising Android smartphones’ ability to play Flash content, for instance—and its rival Softbank, which is currently the only Japanese carrier that has the iPhone. However, it now seems pretty certain that that is soon to change.

Apple is expected to unveil the next generation of the iPhone in an event at the company’s Cupertino campuson October 4, with a keynote headlined by newly installed CEO Tim Cook.
