South African mobile telecommunications company,MTNwill soonlauncha mobile money service inSwaziland, the Swazi Observerreports.

The offering follows successful deployments of mobile money services on the continent such as Kenya’sM-Pesaas well as previous deployments of MTN’s mobile money services in Rwanda and Uganda.

“This is an exciting new product. It is envisioned as something that will change Swaziland’s landscape in the way we do things. It is fast, secure, convenient and affordable,” said MTN’s Head of Mobile Money, Sam Shogwe. “This service is proven throughout Africa and globally to have major impact,” he said.

The mobile product which will be called MTN Mobile Money (MM) will enable anyone in Swaziland send and receive money via their mobile phones.

The service will be made available to all MTN customers. Non MTN customers will also be able to use it but will need to access the service through an authorized MTN Mobile Money dealer. MTN hopes to have about 200 authorised Mobile Money (MM) agents across Swaziland by year end.
