Suggestions that there could be alengthy waitfor Motorola XOOM owners to get Adobe’s Flash 10.2 on their tablets have been calmed after the software company announced it would make it available for download “within a few weeks of Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) devices becoming available”.
Adobe notes in ablog postthat Flash Player 10.2 will be pre-installed on some tablets – we assume any tablet that runs anything but Honeycomb will fall into this category – with optimisation for Honeycomb accounting for the delay on tablets including the Motorola XOOM.
Adobe sees its Flash Player software running on as many as 132 million devices by the end of 2011, supporting over 50 tablets that will ship over the course of the year. As Android continues to make inroads into Symbian’s worldwide smartphone market share and is chosen by manufacturers to power their new tablet devices, Adobe could be right on the money with its prediction.
If you are looking to get a XOOM when they launch, you may have to wait until you can enjoy the full Flash experience. Adobe’s tenative timeframe of “a few weeks” is pretty broad, meaning you could be in for a longer wait than you initially thought.
