Samsung’s Galaxy S II Android smartphone looks to be finally getting its US launch on August 29 after the Korean manufacturer started issuing invites to an event held in New York on that day.
The Galaxy S II launched in Europe and other regions in May, breaking Samsung’s smartphone sales records in the process. By the end of May, the device had soldone million units in South Koreaalone, before going on to sell5 million units worldwideby the end of July.
Samsung committed to an August launch last month, with Samsung Mobile President JK Skin telling Korean reports that the company expected “to release the Galaxy S2 in the U.S. market sometime in August,” athough a dedicated date was unknown.
The smartphone giant will likely launch numerous variants of its Galaxy S II smartphone, as it did with its predecessor, and will likely become the Android smartphone to beat until new quad-core Android devices launch.
