I signed up forScovillea couple of weeks ago when my friend@hotdoghandjobssent me an invite. While I’m an avid Foursquare user I tend to shy away from piling apps on top of Foursquare with the exception of4sqtransitand4squareand7yearsagootherwise I become app exhausted.

After signing up on Scoville’s cute flash page, I didn’t really do much with it. Scoville has sent me an email for every week I’ve been a member, asking me to come to the site. Then it shows me all the places I’ve checked in that week on Foursquare and asks me to “Like” my favorite spots. Then it encourages me to share these likes in a tweet or on Facebook that looks like this:

It wasn’t until our friendScoble tweeted about itthat I thought, I better fill you guys in on the details.

Here’s how it works: Every Tuesday, Scoville shares the best places you’ve been to in the past week with the people who follow you. “Best” is determined by the places you “Like”. The follow list is a bit hidden as it sits on the bottom right corner of your home page screen. But once you start following, you’ll be able to see the places your friends cherry picked that week.

In Scoville’s words:

Scoville is the place to remember, share and discover places you love. Every week, on Tuesday, you can share the best places you’ve been to, that’s #toptuesday! Based on your #toptuesday, we’ll recommend you great new places to discover.

We’re building the most awesome discovery platform. Every Tuesday we’ll feed you with awesome places worth checking out, with personalized recommendations based on the places you’ve loved and those your friends have recently loved.

The point of it:The app wants to “unlock” every city and be able to recommend all of the top places in that specific city. But first, it needs enough users to participate in that local community. As soon as Scoville reaches 1,000 users for your location, they’ll be able to unlock it. At the time of writing this article, New York is unlocked.

The question:will you aid in the data collection? And why Tuesday?
