Earlier today, Microsoft updatedits chartsthat show the status of the various Windows Phone updates, across the providers that carry the handsets, to show the progress that Mango is making. Mango is the largest upgrade to the WP7 platform that has yet been produced.
Globally, providers seem to be prepared for its release in near unison, with most stating to be ‘scheduling’ the update at the current moment. Two carriers, however, arelagging behind: Sprint and Telefonica. TNW Microsoft will have more news on the status of Mango later in the day. Why the two providers are running late is not known at this time.
To make this clearer, let’s go over the definitions that Microsoft employs concerning its updates:
Stage 1: TestingThe software update is undergoing mobile operator network and quality tests. These tests can vary by mobile operator, software update, and device. Updates can include Windows Phone or device-specific improvements.
Stage 2: SchedulingMicrosoft is scheduling the update for delivery. This phase typically lasts 10 business days or less.
Stage 3: Delivering updateMicrosoft has started to send out the update. Important: To help ensure quality, software updates are typically sent out gradually and/or in batches, so it might take several weeks before you receive notice that an update is available for your phone.
No carrier has, according to the charts, flipped the switch and begun to ‘deliver the update.’ While TNW Microsoft cannot, at this exact moment, comment as to what is coming later, several other digital publications are calling today ‘Mango Day.’ We will not say more, yet, as to whether they are correct.
