A couple of years ago we came up with stickers to promote our blog (then still atTheNextWeb.org) that said ‘This object has been marked blogable’. At the time we didn’t realize that bloggable would have to be spelled with 2 g’s.
The word was barely used and by the time we realized our mistake we already had a 1000 stickers printed.
Regardless of the spelling error we put those stickers on every surface they would stick to, including people (okay, cute girls mainly).
They were popular and well liked and we decided to use it as the un-official branding theme for our blog, this time with the correct spelling Bloggable with two g’s.

During our last conference I was in bed, late one evening, thinking about how coolour stickersandT-Shirtswere but how uncool it was that we didn’t own Bloggable.com. With one eye closed and one still open I grabbed my iPad and browsed to Bloggable.com. I was greeted with a parked domain page with some Google ads and a small link somewhere that said “Buy this domain”.
Since Bloggable has been entered as anofficial word this year in the Oxford DictionaryI figured they would most likely ask a fortune. I wasn’t seriously expecting a reply when I entered a bid. I half expected the page to say “Your bid was too low, try again”. But the result page just said “Thank you for your offer, we will respond within 14 days, if you submitted a serious offer”.
I fell asleep with the iPad still in my hands and woke up early the next morning. It was the second day of the conference and I had a lot of work to do. As I woke up I grabbed the iPad again and checked my email. One of the emails had the subject “Your offer on Bloggable.com”. I opened it and read the first line:
Seller has accepted your bid
I was shocked. My first thought was that I accidentally may have entered a few zeroes too many because I was so sleepy. I double-checked my offer and it was all correct. I had successfully bid on Bloggable.com!
So now we own it. Now what?
We seriously think thatBloggable.comis too pretty to use just for a campaign to promote this blog. We thought about using it as a video channel, a Digg/Reddit kinda service where we can sort through ‘bloggable’ user submitted content or something else.
