We often talk about engagement, conversation and two-way communication when it comes to using social networks. While we’ve not changed our collective TNW minds about the necessity for these things, we’ve all run into that point where you’re distracted from your work by that constant stream of information coming throughTwitter.

It’s with this problem in mind thatWrenhas been born. It’s a Twitter app, but the only thing you can do with it is tweet. No reading, to retweeting, no link following. Nothing more than an app to toss out your latest funny “overheard”, a link to something that you’re reading or maybe a quick, Narcissus-spawned update.

I have to admit to being a skeptic, at first. I fired up a pre-release version of Wren and almost immediately closed it. It just didn’t make sense to me. But then I realized that I kept glancing over to myTweetDeckstream while I was trying to work, tossing out a thought here and there, and trying to not get distracted during the process. So I closed TweetDeck, fired up Wren and went back to work.

What I found was that I was still able to put out my thoughts when I wanted, without running the risk of getting sucked into a downward productivity spiral as so often happens with full clients. I can save up to three drafts, add and shorten links and tweet to my heart’s content, all without having to risk being sidetracked.

I don’t love you any less, Twitter friends. But I do have to work sometimes. Wren isn’t going to be your next full-time Twitter client, but that’s exactly the point. It’s simply a great option for those times when you have something to say, but you don’t have the time to read everything else.
